RUSTY REBELS VS. RED DOGSGame # 17 July 31, 2007
Rebels win 4-3
2007 Team Record 9-8-0
Coventry Park- Hot, Hot, Hot, the daytime temperature reached 32 degrees Celsius and with the humidex the temperature felt like 38 degrees and the weather had an effect on the game. The Rebels had not played in a week, but despite the warm temperatures were geared up to play the Red Dogs. The Rebels were missing several players from the lineup; Andy, the Rebels P1, was absent and the Rebels called on Randy H. from the Dog Catchers to fill the position. The Rebels were also missing Tony M., Dave M., Steve K., and Larry U from the lineup.
The Red Dogs got off to a great start scoring 3 runs in the early innings. The Rebels bats were having difficult times getting the ball out of the infield, both teams actually had problems batting on this night. The humidity had deadened the ball and the heat probably didn't help the energy levels of the players.
In the forth inning, the Rebels managed to score a single run, when Captain Hugh hit a ball into the outfield, driving in Jimmer T. who was on second base, and putting the Rebels on the scoreboard. The Rebels defense kept the Red Dogs in check, not allowing any more runs other than the 3 runs scored early in the game. In the later innings the Rebels scored 2 more runs to tie the game and going into the 7th inning (open) the 3-3 score remained. The visiting Red Dogs were shut down quickly by the Rebels defense and in the bottom of the inning the Rebels scored Captain Hugh, who was on second base, to win the game. This win placed the Rebels one game over the .500 mark and improves their record to 9-8-0 for the 2007 season. REBELS REVERE!!!
Highlights: Captain Hugh made a great catch deep behind third base; Jim H. ( the Wadd) made a fantastic running catch in center field, a hit that probably would have gone for extra bases if not caught;
Sidenote: After playing the last 2 games at Coventry Park, the Rebels head back to Keogh Park next Thursday August 9, 2007 evening vs. the Dislocated Joints at 7:00 pm.
